MARATHON #1 (1/6) - Gothics for December 18, 2010
Saturday Apr 23, 2011
Saturday Apr 23, 2011
This is a fill-in by Sam Scozzari for John Scott's Underground Radio (Friday's Gothic Blimp Works) with a follow on of the Friday All Night Show, making this a DJ-shift of 6 hours from Midnight to 6am. It is not to be confused with the station "marathons" that are fund drives to raise money from listeners. With six hours of show, things tend to get deep. In the first of six hours, the program features quasi-inspirational music taken from the late October 2010 release, Come And Get It: The Best of Apple Records, a 17-disc box set that issues remasters of 15 non-Beatles, non-solo, and non-Yoko albums released by the Apple label from 1968-1974. This hour features a bonus track from the Modern Jazz Quartet, some interesting modern music from John Tavener's Celtic Requiem album, James Taylor's "Greensleeves" link into "Something Wrong" from his first album, James Taylor (issued on Apple!), Mary Hopkin with "International" for Earth Song/Ocean Song, Billy Preston's version of "My Sweet Lord" (the original version), and a bonus track from Doris Troy, who release one album on Apple. Later in the first hour, a 20-minute taste of The Band Wagon is featured, with unsigned artists being exposed to the Friday/Saturday midnight listening audience. This episode was aired on December 18, 2010, from Midnight to 1:00 AM. This six-part sequence of programming represents a strong cross section of the types of music and discussion featured on The Friday All Night Show. Other portions of the 6-part program can be found on the site.
