October 23, 2010, 4am-5am: Eileen requests Badfinger, so we gave her "Shine On" from Badfinger, an album that once had a working title of For The Love of Money, produced by George Martin protege, Chris Thomas, and is the first release from the band on the Warner Bros label (circa 1973 or 74). It was actually released before their final Apple album, Ass, due to some problems over at Apple, and at one point, both albums kept each other off the charts. Note: Ass was re-released on CD this week on October 25, 2010, digitally remastered. "Shine On" is one of the few gems co-written by both Peter Ham and Tommy Evans, the other most notable was the Nilsson and Mariah Carey hit, "Without You" (ah, we'll play it some other time)...The show continues with Side 1 of the Warner/Reprise Loss Leader, Hot Platters, featuring music from Deep Purple, John Baldry (produced by Rod Steward and Elton John), Labelle (at that time marketed as a "trio" featuring Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx, and Sara Dash), a fairly undeveloped artist, Redeye, and a non-album single from T Rex. The show continues with The Pixies Three from an actual Mercury 45 RPM single, an actual Sun Records 45 RPM single by Carl Perkins ("Blue Suede Shoes"), and more.
